Tomasz Chyła Quintet

“Lightness, amazing energy and interpretive freshness are the features of this quintet”

Tomasz Chyła Quintet – One of the best young bands on the Polish jazz scene. They are from the Tricity area in northern Poland. The band’s greatest achievement was winning the Grand Prix of the 40th International Jazz Juniors Festival in Krakow in December 2016.

They entered the Polish scene of improvised music proving that young Polish jazz is growing in strength. The shows of the young band are known for their incredibly expressive, virtuosic performances of soloists and energetic, common and open improvisation of the entire composition, which does not conflict with a taste for a simple form and melodiousness. This is a perfectly defined vision of the music that the band’s leader has – the violinist Tomasz Chyła who invited to cooperation his friends, excellent musicians. His seemingly non-jazz instrument brilliantly works in symbiosis with the rest of the band members.

The band is composed of some of the best young musicians in Poland, known to have collaborated with established artists such as Leszek Możdżer, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Tymon Tymański, Jerzy Małek, Maciej Sikała, Leszek Kułakowski and many others.

In the readers’ survey conducted by Jazz Forum magazine – Jazz Top 2018, Tomasz Chyła and his band received a distinction for their album “Circlesongs”. They are first place winners in the Jazz Forum survey in the category of the New Hope – the Band.

In the ranking of JazzPRESS editors they took the first place in the category of Polish Jazz Record of the Year. In 2019, the band was nominated by the Phonographic Academy for the Fryderyki Music Award 2019 in the category of Jazz Music, nomination as the Album of the Year for the album “Circlesongs”.

Tomasz Chyła – the leader of the formation, was nominated as the Artist of the Year in the Jazz category. This is the second nomination for the band. They received the first nomination last year in the category of Jazz, Phonographic Debut of the Year for the album “Eternal Entropy”.
